80 - దమనకారోపణవిధివర్ణన

శిరస్సు పై ఉంచుకొని “దేవేశ్వరా! నేడు నిన్ను ఆహ్వానించుచున్నాను, రేపు ప్రాతఃకాలమున నేను తపఃఫలమును సంపాదింపవలెను. చేపిన ఉపాసనను సఫలము చేయవలెను. ఇదంతయు నీ ఆజ్ఞచే పూర్ణమగుగాక” అని ప్రార్ధించ వలేను. పిమ్మట పాత్రలో నుంచిన మిగిలిన పవిత్రకములను మూలమంత్రముతో ఆచ్చాదించి ప్రాతఃకాలము హ్ననానంతరము శివుని గంధపుహ్పాదులతో పూజించవలెను. పిమ్మట నిత్యనైమిత్తిక కర్మలు పూర్తిచేసికొని దమనకమును పూజించి, దానిని దోసిలిలో గ్రహించి “ఓం హాం ఆత్మతత్త్వాధిపతయే శివాయస్వాహా”, “ఓం హాం విద్యాతత్త్వాధిపతయే శివాయ స్వాహా”, “ఓం హం శివతత్త్వాధిపితయే శివాయస్వాహా” “ఓం హాం సర్వతత్వాధిపతయే శివాయ స్వాహా” అను మంత్రము లతో శివుని పై ఉంచి, పూజించి నాల్గవ అంజలిలో దమనకము గ్రహించి “ఓం హూం మహేశ్వరాయ మఖం పూరయ పూరయ శూలపాణయే నమః” అను మంత్రముతో దానిని శివునకు అర్పించవలెను. ఈ విధముగ శివుని, అగ్నిని పూజించి, గురువునకు విశేషపూజ చేసి “పూజ్యుడా! నేను దమనకంతో చేసిన పూజలో ఏవై న ఎక్కువతక్కువలున్నచో ఆవి నీ కృపచే సరి యగుగాక” అని ప్రార్థించవలెను. ఈ విధముగ దమనకారోహణకర్మ చేసిన వాడు చైత్రమాసజనిత మగు సంపూర్ణఫలము పొంది ఆంతమున స్వర్గమునకు పోవును.

The eightieth chapter describes the ritual offering of the damanaka plant (Artemisia indica) to Bhagavān Śiva as a special seasonal worship associated with the spring festival of Caitrī. The damanaka plant — with its strongly aromatic leaves — is presented as a particularly beloved offering to Śiva, equivalent in merit to the offering of a thousand bilva leaves. The specific mantras with which the damanaka garland is to be woven and offered, the appropriate time of year (the Caitrī new moon in the spring), and the duration of the offering are specified. The merit of performing damanakāropaṇa — including the removal of past sins, granting of longevity, and the fulfillment of desires — is affirmed. The chapter is brief but establishes the principle that even simple offerings of fragrant plants, when properly consecrated, carry the same weight as elaborate ritual acts.
