180- पञ्चमी तिथिके व्रत
अग्निदेव कहते हैं-
वसिष्ठ ! अब मैं आरोग्य, स्वर्ग और मोक्ष प्रदान करनेवाले पञ्चमी व्रतका वर्णन करता हूँ। श्रावण, भाद्रपद, आश्विन और कार्तिक के शुक्लपक्षकी पञ्चमीको वासुकि, तक्षक, कालिय,
मणिभद्र, ऐरावत, धृतराष्ट्र, कर्कोटक और धनंजय नामक नागोंका पूजन करना चाहिये ॥ १-२॥
ये सभी नाग अभय, आयु, विद्या, यश और लक्ष्मी प्रदान करनेवाले हैं ॥ ३ ॥
इस प्रकार आदि आग्नेय महापुराणमें 'पञ्चमीके व्रतोंका वर्णन' नामक एक सौ अस्सीवाँ अध्याय पूरा हुआ ॥ १८० ॥
Summary of chapter 182 of the Agni Mahā Purana is as follows:
The seventh tithi is declared to be especially sacred to Sūrya, and several solar vratas are described. Māgha-śukla-saptamī, the most auspicious Sūrya-saptamī, requires the worshipper to receive Sūrya's image on a lotus seat with water, arka-flowers, and red cloth. Bhādrapada-śukla-saptamī grants all desires; Pauṣa-śukla-saptamī is a pāpa-nāśana vrata. Among the kṛṣṇa-saptamī vratas, the Sarvāpti-saptamī and Nanda-saptamī are named. The Mārgaśīrṣa-śukla-saptamī called Putrīyā-saptamī is specifically recommended for women desiring a son, with Sūrya propitiated as the bestower of progeny.
