181 - అథ షష్ఠీవ్రతాని
అగ్నిదేవుడు చెప్పెను: ఇపుడు షష్టి వ్రతములను గూర్చి చెప్పెదను. కార్తికకృష్ణషష్టియందు ఫలములు భుజించి కార్తికేయునకు అర్ఘ్యదానము చేయవలెను. దీని వలన మనుష్యుడు భుక్తిముక్తులను పొందును. దీనికి స్కంధషష్టి వ్రత మని పేరు. భాద్రపదకృష్ణషష్టియందు అక్షయషష్టి వ్రతము చేయవలెను. ఇది మార్గశీర్షమునందు గూడ చేయవలెను. ఈ అక్షయషష్టీదివసమున ఏ ఒక సంవత్సరమునందై నను ఉపవాస ముండువాడు భుక్తిముక్తు లను పొందును.

Vratas on the sixth tithi are described, with primary focus on Skanda-worship. The Kārtika-kṛṣṇa-ṣaṣṭhī vrata, known as Skanda-ṣaṣṭhī, requires a fruit-only diet and the offering of arghya to Kārttikeya at dusk; this observance grants both worldly enjoyment (bhukti) and ultimate liberation (mukti). The Bhādrapada-kṛṣṇa-ṣaṣṭhī is similarly associated with Skanda, and the Mārgaśīrṣa variant is called Akṣaya-ṣaṣṭhī because its merit is inexhaustible. The chapter connects the sixth tithi with the six-faced lord Ṣaṇmukha, whose blessing on this day removes all enemies internal and external.
