179 - అథ చతుర్ధీవ్రతాని

అగ్నిదేవుడు చెప్పెను: ఇపుడు భుక్తిముక్తిప్రదములగు చతుర్ధీ వ్రతములను గూర్చి చెప్పెదను. మాఘశుక్ల చతుర్దేదివసమున ఉపవాసము చేసి గణేశ పూజ చేయవలెను. పంచమినాడు తిలములు భుజించవలెను. ఇట్లు చేసినవాడు అనేక సంవత్సరముల పాటు, విఘ్న రహితుడై సుఖముగా నుండును. “గం స్వాహా” అనునది మూలమంత్రము, “గాం నమః” ఇత్యాదులతో హృదయాదిన్యాసము చేయవలెను. “ఆగచ్చోల్కాయ” అని గణపతిని ఆవాహనము చేయవలెను. విసర్జన చేయునపుడు “గచ్చోల్కాయ” అని చెప్పవలెను. ఈ విధముగ ఆదియందు ‘గ’ కారయుక్తము, అంతమున ‘ఉల్కా’ శబ్దయుక్తము అగు మంత్రముతో గణపత్యా వాహనాదికము చేయవలెను. గంధాద్యుపచారములు, మోదకాదులు సమర్పించి గణపతిపూజ చేయవలెను. పిదప “ఓం మహోల్కాయ విద్మహే వక్రతుఢాయ ధీమహి తన్నో దస్త్రీ ప్రచో దయాత్” అను మంత్రము జపించవలెను. భాద్రపదశుక్ల చతుర్థిదివసమున వ్రతము చేసినవాడు శివలోకమును పొందును. మంగళవారము కలిసిన చతుర్థినాడు గణపతి పూజ చేసిన వాడు సకలాభీష్టవస్తువులు పొందును. ఫాల్గుణచతుర్థినాడు రాత్రి మాత్రమే భోజనము చేయవలెను. దీనికి “అవిఘ్న చతుర్థి” అని పేరు. చైత్రచతుర్థినాడు దమనకపుష్పములతో గణపతి పూజ చేసినవాడు సుఖభోగములను పొందును.

Gaṇeśa vratas observed on the fourth tithi are described. The Māgha-śukla-caturthī vrata requires upavāsa and Gaṇeśa-pūjā with the mūla-mantra "Gaṃ svāhā," the āvāhana "āgaccha ulkāya," and the visarjana "gaccha ulkāya." The Gāṇapatya gāyatrī-mantra—"Oṃ mahūlkāya vidmahe vakratuṇḍāya dhīmahi tanno dantī pracodayāt"—is given as the japa-text. The Bhādrapada-caturthī leads to Śiva-loka, Maṅgala-caturthī grants the fulfilment of all desires, Phālguṇa-caturthī is the Avighna-caturthī removing all obstacles, and Caitra-caturthī employs damana-flowers specific to the season.
