Summary of chapter 8 of the Matsya Mahā Purana is as follows:
Bhagavān Matsya details the elaborate Vedic procedures for Rājyābhisheka, the ritual coronation of a righteous monarch who serves as the earthly representative of Dharma. The chapter outlines the preparation of the consecration arena, the gathering of holy waters from sacred rivers and four oceans, and the use of sacred herbs, earths from diverse holy places, and royal paraphernalia. The officiating priests perform oblations into the sacred fire while chanting mantras from the Ṛg, Yajur, and Sāma Vedas to invoke the blessings of the Lokapālas. The king is bathed with sanctified waters from golden pitchers, anointed with royal unguents, and adorned with the crown and royal robes, taking a solemn oath to protect his subjects, uphold truth, punish the wicked, and honor the Brāhmaṇas and Ṛshis.
