56 - కృష్ణాష్టమీ వ్రతము
ఈశ్వరుడు నారదునకు ఇట్లు చెప్పెను: ఇక కృష్ణాష్టమీ వ్రతమును తెలి పేద వినుము; ఇది సర్వపాప ప్రణా శకము; వి శేషించి నరులకు ఇది శాంతిని ముక్తిని ఇచ్చును. దీనిని కృష్ణపక్షాష్టమినాడు చేయవలసినందున దీనికీ పేరు కలి నది. మార్గశిరము మొదలు కార్తికము వరకు చుర్గ శిరమున శంకరుడు పుష్యమున శంభుడు మాఘము, మహేశ్వరుడు ఫాల్గునమున మహాదేవుడు చైత్రమున స్థాణుడు వైశాఖమున శివుడు జ్యేష్టమున పశుపతి ఆషాఢమున ఉగ్రుడు శ్రావణ మున శర్వుడు భాద్రపదమున త్ర్యంబకుడు ఆశ్వయుజమున హరుడు కార్తిక మున ఈశానుడు అను పేర్ణతో పర మేశ్వరుని పూజించవలెను. శివభక్తులగు స్త్రీలను శివునితో పాటు గోభూహిరణ్య వస్త్రములతో అర్చించవలెను. ఈ వ్రతపు అష్ట మీ. తిథినాడు గోమూత్రము ఆవు నేయి. ఆవు పాలు నూవులు దర్భలు వేసి ఉంచిన నీరు ఆవు కొమ్ములో పోసి ఉంచిన నీరు గోమయము తెల్ల జిల్లేడాకు మా రేడాకు ఆవు పెరుగు వీటిని ఆహారముగా తీసికొని ఉండి రాత్రివేళ శివు నర్చించవలెను. మార్గశిర ము మొదలు ప్రతి రెండేసి మాసములందు వరుసగా రావి-మర్రి. మేడి జువ్వి- మోదుగ-నేరేడు పుల్లలతో పండ్లు తోముకొని ఆ చెట్ల క్రింద భుజించుచుండవలెను. ఇట్లోక సంవత్సర ము వ్రతము జరిపి ముగిసిన తరువాత పెరుగన్న ము - చాందనీ చామరము దండములు నల్లని గోవు నల్లని (రెండు) వస్త్రములు పంచరత్న ములతో కూడ రాగి కడవను దేవున కర్పించి బ్రాహ్మణునకు దానము చేయవలెను. నల్లని గోవులను బంగారమును వివిధ వస్త్రములను కూడ బ్రాహ్మణులకు దానమీయవలెను. శ క్తిలేనివాడు ఒక గోవునే న అతిభ క్తితో నీయవలెను. ధనమునకు లోభించినచో దోషము కలుగును. ఇట్లు ఉపవాస ఫూ కతమును జరిపినవారు ఏడువందల కల్పముల కాలము దేవతల పూజ లందు. కొనుచు శివలోకమున సుఖింతురు.

Bhagavān Matsya outlines the procedural mandates and spiritual virtues of the Kṛshṇāshṭamī-Vrata, observed on the eighth lunar day of the dark fortnight in every month to invoke the protective grace of Lord Śiva and Bhagavān Vishṇu. The devotee maintains a complete or partial fast during the day, performing ritual baths with water infused with sacred herbs and sesame seeds. In the evening, the practitioner worships the divine Lord with fresh bilva leaves, white flowers, incense, and lamps, meditating upon His role as the ultimate destroyer of fear and ignorance. The Lord explains that observing this vow continuously for a full year purifies the practitioner's body and mind, shields the family from sudden calamities, bestows long life and righteous progeny, and ensures that the practitioner is never afflicted by hellish torments after departing from the mortal world.
