Summary of chapter 278 of the Agni Purāṇa is as follows:
The Puru lineage — from which both the Kauravas and Pāṇḍavas descend — is narrated in full. The line passes through Janmejaya, Prācīnvān, Manasyu, Vītamaya, Śandhu, Bahuvidhā, and Saṃyāti to Duṣyanta, who fathers Bharata upon Śakuntalā. Bharadvāja is given as a son by the Maruts. Ajamīḍha's lineage gives Jahnu → Kuśika → Gādhi → Viśvāmitra. Ṛkṣa → Saṃvaraṇa → Kuru, who establishes the sacred field of Kurukṣetra. Kuru's descendants through Śantanu, Bhīṣma (Gaṅgā's son), Pāṇḍu, and Dhṛtarāṣṭra lead to the full Pāṇḍava genealogy — Yudhiṣṭhira, Bhīma, Arjuna, Nakula, Sahadeva — and their sons including Abhimanyu and Parīkṣit. The Jarāsandha lineage from Bṛhadratha is also traced.
