Summary of chapter 266 of the Agni Purāṇa is as follows:
The science of temple architecture (Prāsāda-lakṣaṇa) is presented. Agni describes the three main styles of Hindu temple architecture: Nāgara (northern), Drāviḍa (southern), and Vesara (mixed). The proportional measurements of the vimāna (tower), the garbhagṛha (sanctum), the maṇḍapa (hall), and the ardha-maṇḍapa (antechamber) are given according to the Vāstu-śāstra principles. The chapter stresses that a temple built according to these divine proportions becomes a living cosmic diagram that radiates the deity's energy throughout the surrounding region.
