Summary of chapter 128 of the Agni Purāṇa is as follows:
A brief summary of the Mahābhārata is presented to place it within the Purāṇic context. Agni describes the Kuru-Pāṇḍava rivalry, the game of dice, the exile, the Kurukṣetra war, and the final ascent of the Pāṇḍavas to svarga. Special emphasis falls on the Bhagavadgītā as the essence of the epic and on Kṛṣṇa's role as sarathī (charioteer) and jagad-guru. The eighteen Parvas are enumerated by name. The chapter closes with the statement that the Mahābhārata is an itihāsa whose hearing removes sins and grants dharma, artha, kāma, and mokṣa.
