Summary of chapter 44 of the Agni Purāṇa is as follows:
Expanding the previous chapter, this chapter provides detailed iconographic specifications for the major forms of Bhagavān Viṣṇu. The four-armed Vaikuṇṭha form — holding śaṅkha, cakra, gadā, and padma — is described with the precise placement of each attribute in the four hands. The reclining Anantaśayana form, with Bhagavān lying on the great serpent Śeṣa with Lakṣmī at his feet and Brahmā emerging from his navel lotus, is described in detail. Forms of specific avatāras — the Matsya, Kūrma, Varāha, Narasiṃha, Vāmana, and others — each receive their own iconographic prescription. The vehicle (Garuḍa), the doorkeepers (Jaya and Vijaya), and Lakṣmī's own form as Bhagavān's inseparable consort are also described. The merit of having such images made and installed is affirmed.
