186 - Vow observed on the tenth lunar day
Agni said:
1. Ishall describe the vow (to be performed) on the tenth lunar day that would confer virtue, desire etc Oneshould eat once on the tenth lunar day and give ten cows as gift at the end. Land and goldshould be given. One would become a lord of the brahmins.

The vrata of the tenth tithi is briefly described. Agni prescribes a single meal (ekabhukta) on the daśamī throughout the vrata-period and the completion ceremony with dāna of ten cows and ten gold coins to a deserving brāhmaṇa. The performer of this vrata attains the status of brahmaṇādhipati—one who is acknowledged as a pre-eminent patron of brāhmaṇas. The brevity of the chapter reflects that the tenth tithi's major associations are through its lunar-calendar alignment with ekādaśī rather than as an independent vrata occasion.
