Summary of chapter 306 of the Agni Purāṇa is as follows:
The science of rasāyana — rejuvenation and the achievement of longevity, memory, complexion, strength, and resistance to disease — is expounded. Agni names the principal rasāyana substances: āmalakī, harītakī, bibhītaka, guḍūcī, śatāvarī, aśvagandhā, and various mineral preparations (loha, abhraka, śilājatu). The preliminary purification of the body before rasāyana administration is specified, along with dietary restrictions and the ideal age and season for the regimen. Rasāyana is shown to serve not merely physical longevity but also the pursuit of dharma and mokṣa by maintaining the bodily vehicle needed for spiritual sādhanā.
