Unrolling the subtle parchment inside the ring, Alarka reads Madālasā's instruction directing him to abandon attachment to external kingdoms and seek refuge at the lotus feet of Avadhūta Dattātreya. Realizing that true kingship lies over one's own mind, Alarka approaches Dattātreya in the forest, receives supreme Ātmajñāna, and realizes the illusory nature of both kingdom and conquest.
