111. సప్తమీ కల్పమున అభ్యంగ సప్తమీ వర్ణనము

తా॥ బ్రహ్మదేవుడిట్లనెను. “శ్రావణ మాస శుక్లపక్ష సప్తమీతిథి నాడు శుచియై సప్తవాహనుడు, ఆది దేవుడునైన సూర్యదేవుని పుష్పధూపాదులతో నర్చించి. నియతాత్ముడై పాఖండాదులతో సంభాషణను విసర్జించి బ్రాహ్మణునకు దక్షిణ యిచ్చి వాజ్నియతి గలవాడై రాత్రిభోజనము చేయవలెను.ప్రతి సంవత్సరమును సూర్యదేవున కభ్యంగముతో పూజ సమర్పింపవలెను. సప్తమీ దినమున శుభ్రమైనది, తెల్లనిది, సద్యఃపక్వమునైన అన్నము నివేదనకు ముఖ్యము. దేవదేవునకు సమర్పించునియా విభవము లందు వివిధములైన వాద్యములు మ్రోగింపజేయవలెను. ఈ మాసమున దేవున కభ్యంగము ముఖ్యముగ చెప్పబడినది. శక్తికొలదిగ విధిననుసరించి యభ్యంగముతో భాస్కరదేవుని భక్తి యుక్తుడై పూజించు వాడు సూర్యలోకమునకు బోవును. యథాశక్తిగ బ్రాహ్మణ సంతర్పణము చేసి. శంఖ తూర్య నినాదములతో, పుష్కలములైన వేదఘోషలతో నాదేవునకభ్యంగార్చన చేయు మానవుడు దివ్యవిమానా రూఢుడై సూర్యలోకమును జేరును. ఈ విధానమున క్రమముగ పన్నెండు మాసములు ఉపవాస పారణములు పూర్తియైన పిమ్మట బ్రాహ్మణునకు దక్షిణనొసంగవలెను. శుచియై ఆదిత్యారాధన రూపమగు నీ వ్రతము నాచరించిన మనుష్యుడు దివ్యమైన సూర్యనారాయణుని లోకమునకుఁబోవును.

Sesame oil, which in Indian tradition is associated with the sun, with ancestors, and with purification, is the central element of the Abhyaṅga-saptamī. On this saptamī, the votary anoints the entire body with sesame oil before sunrise, reciting specific Sūrya mantras as the oil is applied. This act of self-anointing with the sun-associated oil is understood as drawing solar energy into the body through the skin, purifying the blood and the lymphatic system, and strengthening the skin's own protective and sensing capacities. Sūrya is then worshipped after the oil-bath with specific offerings of sesame. The chapter identifies this vrata as particularly effective for skin diseases, which in the Āyurvedic and Purāṇic understanding are associated with solar energy imbalance.
