192 - Diseases

1-3. Take eight parts of Chitraka, sixteen parts of Shurana¹ four parts of Shuņțhi, two parts of Maricha, three parts of Pippalimüla, four parts of Vidanga, eight parts af Muşhalika, and four parts of Triphala. Take jaggery double the quantity of these drugs and prepare a Modaka (sweet meat) of them. This is a sure remedy for impaired digestion, jaundice, chlorosis, dysentery, indigestion and enlarged spleen. 

1. Amorphophallus campanutatus, 

4-7. Take these drugs each weighing ten palas: - Bilva, Agnimantha, Shyonaka, Patală, Paribhadraka, Prasărani, Ašhva- gandha, Bruhat, Kanţakärika, Bala, Atibala, Rásna, Shvadamshtră, Punarnava, Eranda, Shäribā², Parni, Gudúchi and Kapikacchuka. They are to be boiled in pure water. When reduced to one fourth pour the decoction into an oil vessel and cook again. Four times this quantity of cow's or goat's milk must be poured and Shatāvari and Saindhava equal to the oil must be added. 

2. Perhaps Särivă (1) Hemidemus indicus (i) Cryptelepis bacha nami (GVDB, p. 429-30).

8-9. I shall mention the names of the drugs the residence of which is to be added: - Shatapushpă, Devadāru, Balā, Parni, Vachă, Aguru, Kuşhtha Mamsi, Saindhava and Punarnavå. Each of these must be a pala in weight. The oil thus prepared can be used for anointing or as an errhine or as a potion. 

10. This oil is a cure for cardiac pain, pleurodynia, goitre, hysteria and Vatarakta. The man shall regain lost man hood. 

11. By taking in this oil even the she-mule can conceive without risk to life. O Hara, what then about woman? Horses and elephants affected by deranged Váyu can be cured with this. Man afflicted by deranged Väyu should be given this oil. 

12. Mustard oil cooked with Hingu, Tumburu and Shunthi is an efficacious ear drop for pain in the ear (otalgia). 

13-14. Oil cooked in a decoction of dry Mülaka and Shunthi reduced to ashes, Hingula and Nagara with four times of butter milk is a sure remedy for deafness, otalgia, and fetid discharges from ears. By pouring this oil into the ears all germs can be killed. 

15-17. Oil cooked with the following drugs is a sure remedy for all sorts of earache. The ashes of dry Mülaka and Shunțhī, Hingula, Nagara, Šhatapușhpă, Vachă. Kushtha, Dāru, Shigru, Rasäñjana, Sauvarchala, Yavakşhåra, sea salt, Granthika, Vida Musta, Madhu (honey) and Shukta four times in quantity, juice of Mātulunga and Kadali. 

18. Deafness, rumbling sound in the ears, fetid discharges and germs in the ears can be cured by pouring this oil into the cars. 

19. The germs are killed instantaneously, O Śhiva, with the moon for crest. This taila or oil is called Ksharataila and it removes all sorts of impurities in mouth and teeth. 

20-22. The Chandanadi oil: -Oil is cooked with these drugs: -Chandana, Kunkuma, Mamsi, Karpūra, Jatipatrika, fruits of Jāti, Kakkola, Pūga and Lavanga, Aguru, Kuşhtha, Kastūrī, Tagarapädigā, Gorochană, Priyangu, Bali, Nakhi, Sarala, Saptaparņa, Lākşha, Amalaki and Padmaka. 

23. It cures excessive perspiration, bad odour, itching sensation and skin diseases. Internally administered it gives the man the virility to have sexual intercourse with a hundred women, and the women the ability to conceive though discarded as a sterile woman before. 

24-25. Chitrakaghruta: - Butter a prastha in volume with water eight prasthas in volume should be cooked with these drugs: - Chitraka, Yamani, Dhanya, Trayüşhaņa, Jiraka, Sauvarchala, Vidanga, Pippalīmūla and Rajika. This butter cures piles, enlarged spleen, tumour, etc. and improves digestive power. 

26-29. A prastha of mustard oil should be cooked in eight prasthas of cow's urine in a mud pot or iron cauldron slowly in low fire, with the following drugs each weighing a Karsha -Maricha, Trivrut, Kushtha, Haritala Manahshila, Devadaru, the two kinds of Haridra, Māmsi, Chandana, Viśhālā, Karavira, milky exudations from the Arka plant, watery serum extracted from cowdung and half a pala of Vişha. This oil externally applied cures Påmă, Vicharchika, ring worm, and all foul sores. It gives a smoothness to the skin. 

30. Many kinds of skin diseases like Shvitra can be cured with this oil. Even a chronic leucoderma gets cured instantly. 

31-34. Butter should be cooked with Patolapatra, Katuka, Manjishtha, Shäriba, Nišha, Jati, Shami, Nimbapatra and Madhuka. O Shiva, external application of this mitigates the pain of suppurating ulcers. 

Brahmi Ghruta: - A prastha af butter, juice of Kaņțakári and milk should be cooked with an Akşha weight of these drugs: Brāhmi, Shankhapushpi, Vacha, Soma, Vrukşhasuvarchala, Abhaya, Gudūchi, Ațarūşhaka and Vaguji. This is called Bråhmi ghruta. It increases power of memory and intellect. 

35. A compound of Agnimantha, Vachă, Váså and Pippali taken with honey and Saindhava for seven days enables one to sing as sweetly as the Kinnaras. 

36. A three-day course of the compound of Apåmárga, Gudūchi, Kushtha, Shatăvari, Vachă, Shankhapushpa, Abhay, and Vidanga with butter enables a man to retain in his memory the contents of eight hundred books. 

37. Vachả taken with mere water, milk or butter daily for a month makes a man so intelligent as to grasp anything as soon as it is heard. 

38. A pala of Vachă drunk with milk during lunar or solar eclipse makes a man highly gifted with intelligence instantly. 

39-41. Water boiled with Bhūnimba, Nimba, Triphala, Parpata, Patoli, Mustaka, and Vasaka cures carbuncles and impure blood. There is no doubt about this. Sticks prepared from Ketaka fruit, Shankha, Vachă, Saindhava, Tryüşhaņa, Phena, Rasanjana, Vidanga, Manahshila and honey cure Kacha (opaque eyes), blindness, and coatings in the eyelids. 

42-44. A drona of water boiled two prasthas of Maşhaka must be reduced to one fourth. Pour a prastha of oil and cook with an Adhaka of sour gruel. Then add the following drugs well ground: -Punarnava, Gokshuraka, Saindhava, Tryūşhana, Vachà, Lavana, Suradaru, Manjişhtha and Kanţakärika. Internally administered or used as an errhine this oil cures acute earache. 

45-46. O Maheśhvara, the preceding oil anointed over the body quells deafness and many other ailments. Cook a prastha of oil with two palas of Saindhava, five palas each of Shunthi and Chitraka with five prasthas of Sauvira. This is a sure remedy for leucorrhoea, Aphonia, enlarged spleen and all types of disorders due to deranged Väyu. 

47-48. Oil cooked in a decoction of Udumbara, Vața, Plakşha, the two varieties of Jambū, Arjuna, Pippala, Kadamba, Paläsha, Lodhra, Tinduka, Madhūka, Amra, Sarja, Badara, Padmakeśhara, Shirişhabija and Ketaka quells all sorts of sores and ulcers though long standing, by means of an external application.
