Śakuni of the Ikṣvāku Line

Śakuni of the Ikṣvāku line was a prince who came to the great gathering at Hāṭakeśvara. The Vāmana Mahā Purāṇa tells of this gathering in Chapters 37 to 40. He is not the same as Śakuni, the prince of Gāndhāra in the Mahābhārata.

Identity

This Śakuni was a son of an Ikṣvāku king. He came to Hāṭakeśvara, a Śaiva tīrtha (holy place), when kings and ṛṣis gathered there for the celestial weddings. The Ikṣvāku line is also called the Sūrya-vaṃśa, the Solar line.
