Devavatī, daughter of Kandaru

Devavatī was the daughter of Kandaru, a daitya. She was one of the women whose weddings were held at the great gathering at Hāṭakeśvara. This is told in Chapters 37–40 of the Vāmana Mahā Purāṇa.

Name and family

Her name means “one endowed with divine qualities”. Her father Kandaru was a daitya.

Marriage at Hāṭakeśvara

Devavatī’s wedding at the tīrtha (holy place) of Hāṭakeśvara was part of the same great occasion as the weddings of Citrāṅgadā, Nandayantī and Vedavatī. Those who came to the gathering included devas, yakshas and daityas.
