Añjana (Yakṣa)

Añjana was a yakṣa. He was the father of Nandayantī. Her marriage was one of those celebrated at the sacred gathering at Hāṭakeśvara, as the Vāmana Mahā Purāṇa tells in Chapters 37–40.

He is not the same as Añjanā, the mother of Hanumān.

Who he was

Añjana was a yakṣa, one of the beings linked with wealth and the powers of nature and the earth. He was the father of Nandayantī, who was one of the divine women whose marriage was celebrated at Hāṭakeśvara. He took part in that great occasion, where his daughter’s marriage was among those celebrated.

His name Añjana means añjana (collyrium), the dark pigment used to line the eyes.
