Pṛthvīrāja

Pṛthvīrāja · pṛthvī-rāja, “king of the earth”

The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells of Pṛthvīrāja Cauhāna, a king who was to be born in Ajamera by the aṃśa (a portion) of Dhṛtarāshṭra. He was the son of Someśvara and Kīrtimālinī, and became the mighty lord of Dillī. Draupadī was to be his daughter, famed by the name Velā. He attained vīragati, the end of a hero, and reached svarga.

His birth and family

The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that by the aṃśa of Dhṛtarāshṭra, Pṛthvīrāja would be born in Ajamera, and that Draupadī would be his daughter, famed by the name Velā. These births are part of what Bhagavān Śiva foretold of the Pāṇḍavas, who were to be born again in the Kali Yuga by their aṃśas:

Sūta gives his family. Ānandadeva‘s son was the great warrior Someśvara. He married Kīrtimālinī, the elder daughter of Anaṅgapāla, and three sons were born of her:

His end

The Pratisarga Parva tells that a king named Sahoddīna conquered Pṛthvīrāja by deceit and killed him, and that Pṛthvīrāja reached svarga. The third khaṇḍa says that at the end Pṛthvīrāja Cauhāna attained vīragati.

After Pṛthvīrāja

The parva tells that the kings born of the kalā-aṃśa of Suyodhana were all killed at Kurukshetra by Sahoddīna. Maharshi Śaunaka asks Sūta which kings arose after Pṛthvīrāja, and Sūta answers that Sahoddīna again reached Dillī, conquered the kings and broke many mūrtis and devamandiras.
