Marudhanva

Marudhanva · maru-dhanva, “the desert land”

Marudhanva is one of the eighteen kingdoms of Bhāratavarsha named in the Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa. The printed rendering glosses it as Mārvāḍa. The Pratisarga Parva tells that Bhāratavarsha at that time was bounded by Kapila-sthāna on the east, the river Sindhu on the west, Badarī-kshetra on the north and Setubandha on the south. Within it lay eighteen kingdoms, in order: Indraprastha, Pāñcāla, Kurukshetra, Kampila, Antarvedī, Vraja, Ajamera, Marudhanva, Gurjara, Mahārāshṭra, Draviḍa, Kaliṅga, Avantī, Uḍupa, Baṅga, Gauḍa, Māgadha and Kauśalya. Marudhanva is the eighth.
