Vraja · vraja, “the pasture land”

Vraja is one of the eighteen kingdoms of Bhāratavarsha, the sixth in the list. The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa says: Bhāratavarsha at that time was bounded on the east by Kapila-sthāna, on the west by the Sindhu river, on the north by Badarī-kshetra and on the south by Setubandha. In it were eighteen kingdoms: Indraprastha, Pāñcāla, Kurukshetra, Kampila, Antarvedī, Vraja, Ajamera, Marudhanva, Gurjara, Mahārāshṭra, Draviḍa, Kaliṅga, Avantī, Uḍupa, Baṅga, Gauḍa, Māgadha and Kauśalya.
