Nṛsiṃha Tīrtha
Nṛsiṃha Tīrtha · nṛ-siṃha tīrtha, “the tīrtha of Nṛsiṃha”
Nṛsiṃha Tīrtha is a tīrtha in the river Devikā, in the Madra country. It is the place where Bhagavān Vishṇu himself bathed in the form of Nṛsiṃha, and by merely bathing there all pāpas are destroyed.
In the account of Queen Lalitā
Bhagavān Śrī Kṛshṇa, answering Yudhishṭhira on the glory of dīpadāna (the gift of lamps), tells how Piṅgala Muni told Devī Jāmbavatī at Mathurā the account of Queen Lalitā, who remembered her former birth. When her co-wives asked her why she gave lamps so devotedly, Lalitā told them that, for the uplift of humans, Brahmā brought Pārvatī herself down to earth as the excellent river Devikā in the Madra country. The river destroys pāpa, and one who bathes in it even once becomes a gaṇa of Śiva. The place in that river where Bhagavān Vishṇu himself bathed in the form of Nṛsiṃha is called Nṛsiṃha Tīrtha. By merely bathing there, all pāpas are destroyed.
Lalitā went on to tell how King Sauvīra built a temple on the bank of the Devikā, where his purohita Maitreya gave lamps every day, and how, as a mouse in that temple, she kept a lamp burning in the month of Kārttika without meaning to, and by that puṇya was born a queen.
