Śaladā (daughter of Raudrāśva)
Śaladā
Śaladā is one of the ten daughters of Raudrāśva, a king of the line of Pūru. With her nine sisters she became the wife of the ṛshi Prabhākara, born in the line of Atri.
Her family
The Sūta tells the munis that Raudrāśva, son of Subāhu in the line of Pūru, had ten sons and ten daughters. The daughters were Bhadrā, Śūdrā, Madrā, Śaladā, Maladā, Khaladā, Naladā, Surasā, Gocavalā and Strīratnakūṭā. A ṛshi named Prabhākara, born in the line of Atri, became the husband of all ten.
When Sūrya, struck by Rāhu, was falling from the sky and the world was plunged in darkness, light came through Prabhākara alone: he said “Svasti be to you!” and Sūrya did not fall. On his ten wives Prabhākara begot ten sons, masters of the Veda and founders of gotras, famous as the Svastyātreyas.
