Gocavalā (daughter of Raudrāśva)
Gocavalā · go-cavalā, “as printed, Gocavalā”
Gocavalā is a daughter of King Raudrāśva of the line of Pūru. Sūta tells the munis, in the Brahma Purāṇa, that Pūru’s line ran through Suvīra, Manasyu, Abhayada, Sudhanvan and Subāhu to Raudrāśva, who had ten sons and ten daughters. The daughters were Bhadrā, Śūdrā, Madrā, Śaladā, Maladā, Khaladā, Naladā, Surasā, Gocavalā and Strīratnakūṭā.
A ṛshi named Prabhākara, born in the vaṃśa of Atri, became the husband of all ten daughters. It was this Prabhākara who brought light to the world when Sūrya, struck down by Rāhu, was falling from the sky, and by his word “Svasti” stayed Sūrya’s fall.
