Citrāṅgada of Hastināpura
Citrāṅgada was the elder son of Śāntanu and Satyavatī. He was the older of the two brothers of Vicitravīrya. After Śāntanu, he became king of Hastināpura. He belonged to the Pūru line.
His reign was short. A powerful Gandharva chieftain who was also named Citrāṅgada fought him, and the king was killed.
Reign and death
Citrāṅgada became king of Hastināpura after the death of Śāntanu. He was a brave king. The Gandharva Citrāṅgada could not bear that a mortal king had the same name as he did. The two fought a long battle. At the end of that battle the Kuru king Citrāṅgada was killed.
Then Bhīṣma placed the younger brother, Vicitravīrya, on the throne.
