Marutvatī
Marutvatī · marut-vatī
Marutvatī is one of the sixty daughters of Daksha Prajāpati and one of the ten wives of Dharma. Her sons are the Marutvantas.
Lomaharshaṇa tells the munis how the devas and asuras came to be. When his sons, the Haryaśvas and the thousand after them, had gone away on the counsel of Nārada and not returned, Daksha begot sixty daughters in Vairiṇī, the daughter of Vīraṇa. He gave ten to Dharma, thirteen to Kaśyapa, twenty-seven to Soma, four to Arishṭanemi, two to Bahuputra, two to Aṅgiras and two to the learned Kṛśāśva.
The ten wives of Dharma were Arundhatī, Vasu, Yāmi, Lambā, Bhānu, Marutvatī, Saṅkalpā, Muhūrtā, Sādhyā and Viśvā. From Marutvatī were born the Marutvantas, as the Viśvedevas were born of Viśvā, the Sādhyas of Sādhyā, the Vasus of Vasu, the Bhānus of Bhānu and the Muhūrtas of Muhūrtā.
