Pāpa-rākshasī is one of the four placed outside the Vāstu-maṇḍala in the Madhyama Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa. Together with the forty-five within the maṇḍala, the four are placed in the corners outside it: Carakī in the īśāna corner (north-east), Vidārī in the agni corner (south-east), Pūtanā in the nairṛta corner (south-west) and Pāpa-rākshasī in the vāyavya corner (north-west).
