Suvarṇācala Mantra

Suvarṇācala Mantra · suvarṇa-acala mantra, “the mantra of the mountain of gold”

The Suvarṇācala Mantra is the set of verses recited at the gift of the Suvarṇācala, also called Hemaparvata, a mountain made of gold. Bhagavān Śrī Kṛshṇa gives it to Yudhishṭhira in the Uttara Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa.

The setting

Śrī Kṛshṇa gives the rule of the gift of the excellent Suvarṇācala, which takes away pāpa and by which a person reaches Brahmaloka. A thousand palas of gold make the best, five hundred the middle and two hundred and fifty the least; even one of small means, free of pride, may have a mountain made of a little more than one pala. All the rest is as for the Dhānyaparvata. The Vishkambha mountains are set up in the same way, and the giver prays with these mantras.

The mantra

namaste brahmabījāya brahmagarbhāya vai namaḥ||
yasmādanantaphaladastasmāt pāhi śiloccaya|
yasmādagnerapatyaṃ tvaṃ yasmāt tejo jagatpateḥ ||
hemaparvatarūpeṇa tasmāt pāhi nagottama|

Śiloccaya (heap of rock), you are the seed of Brahman: namaskāra to you. Brahmā stays within your womb: praṇāma to you. Since you give endless fruit, protect me. Best of mountains, since you are the offspring of Agni and the tejas of Jagatpati, Śiva, protect me in the form of the mountain of gold.
