Ariselu

Ariselu · ariselu, “a sweet made with sugar”

Grammar: plural noun; the Telugu word printed in the text.

Meaning: a sweet made with sugar or jaggery, offered as naivedya and given to brāhmaṇas.

In the scriptures: in the vrata of saubhāgya that Gaurī Devī made, she tells Dharmarāja that at its end the woman should give a learned brāhmaṇa ariselu (glossed in the text as balls made with jaggery), bhakshyas and khaṇḍaśarkarā articles (Bhavishya Purāṇa, Brahma Parva, Chapter 21). In the Nandā Saptamī vrata of Mārgaśira, Brahmā gives ariselu made with sugar as the naivedya of the second pāraṇa, with Prabodha dhūpa. Brāhmaṇas are fed with ariselu (Bhavishya Purāṇa, Brahma Parva, Chapter 100).
