Ṛshyamūka

Ṛshyamūka · ṛshya-mūka

Ṛshyamūka is a mountain of Bhārata khaṇḍa, the southern land of Jambudvīpa. The Bhāgavata Purāṇa names it in Śuka Maharshi’s account of Bhārata to Parīkshit, tenth among the twenty-seven mountains he names there.

Among the mountains of Bhārata

Having told of Bhārata khaṇḍa, where Bhagavān Nara-Nārāyaṇa is worshipped by Nārada Maharshi, Śuka names its mountains in this order: Malaya, Maṅgalaprastha, Maināka, Trikūṭa, Ṛshabha, Kūṭaka, Kollaka, Sahya, Devagiri, Ṛshyamūka, Śrīśaila, Veṅkaṭa, Mahendra, Vāridhāra, Vindhya, Śuktimān, Ṛkshagiri, Pāriyātra, Droṇa, Citrakūṭa, Govardhana, Raivataka, Kakubha, Nīla, Gokāmukha, Indrakīla and Kāmagiri. Besides these there are mountains in hundreds and thousands, and from their middle parts rise countless nadas and nadīs. The people of Bhārata bathe in the waters of these rivers, which purify one by the mere remembrance of their names.
