Marudeśa

Marudeśa · maru-deśa, “the desert land”

Marudeśa is a land named in the Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa. The Pratisarga Parva tells that at the time when Prasena of the line of Budha and the Yaduvaṃśī king Sātvata Śūrasena became rulers of Madhurā, Śamaśupāla of the mleccha line, “one who keeps a beard”, became ruler of Marudeśa. The printed Hindi rendering glosses Marudeśa in brackets as Arab, Iran and Iraq.
