Pracetas, Father of Vālmīki
Pracetas · pra-cetas, “the wise one”
Pracetas is named as the father of the muni Vālmīki. The Uttara Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa gives this in the account of King Pushpavāhana, in the Vibhūti Dvādaśī vrata, which Bhagavān Śrī Kṛshṇa tells Yudhishṭhira: “Once the muni Vālmīki, son of Pracetas, came to the king.” The king addressed Vālmīki himself as Pracetas when he asked about his former births.
