Dīkshitā

Dīkshitā

The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that Kaṇva, son of Kaśyapa Maharshi, praised Sarasvatī Devī and by her vara had ten sons, among them Dīkshita. When they were twelve years old, Śāradā Devī, who loves her bhaktas, gave them her daughters, named in order Upādhyāyī, Dīkshitā, Pāṭhakī, Śuklikā, Miśrāṇī, Agnihotriṇī, Dvivedinī, Trivedinī, Pāṇḍyāyanī and Caturvedinī. Dīkshitā became the wife of Dīkshita. Each of those daughters had sixteen sons, and they all became gotrakāras (founders of gotras), known by the names Kaśyapa, Bharadvāja, Viśvāmitra, Gotama, Jamadagni, Vasishṭha, Vatsa, Gautama, Parāśara, Garga, Atri, Bhṛgu, Aṅgirā, Śṛṅgī, Kātyāyana and Yājñavalkya. Bhagavān Jagannātha tells this to Kṛshṇacaitanya.
