Kāṭaka

Kāṭaka · kāṭaka

Kāṭaka is a nāga of Nāgaloka. Śrī Kṛshṇa tells Yudhishṭhira, in the Uttara Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa, that Kārtavīryārjuna, king of Māhishmatī, received a thousand arms as a vara from Bhagavān Dattātreya. By the strength of his thousand arms he churned the ocean. In Nāgaloka he conquered the nāgas such as Kāṭaka, and founded his own city there as well.
