Yudhājit (Son of Kroshṭu)

Yudhājit

Yudhājit is a Yādava, a son of Kroshṭu by his wife Mādrī and a brother of Devamīḍhusha. The Purāṇa also calls him Vṛshṇi-putra. He is not Yudhājit of Kekaya.

In the line of Kroshṭu

Sūta tells the munis the line of Kroshṭu, son of Yadu. Kroshṭu’s wives were Gāndhārī and Mādrī. Gāndhārī bore Anamitra, and Mādrī bore two sons, Yudhājit and Devamīḍhusha. Their line grew as the Vṛshṇi line in three branches.

The Purāṇa names the brothers again before the account of the Syamantaka gem: Gāndhārī’s son was the mighty Anamitra; Mādrī’s sons were Yudhājit and Devamīḍhusha, and Devamīḍhusha was a friend even to his enemies. After the gem is returned, it says: “Born of Mādrī was Yudhājit, Vṛshṇi-putra.”
