Vāpyakarmā
Vāpyakarmā · vāpya-karmā
The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that Vāpyakarmā was the son of Udaya, who settled the city of Udayapura in the middle of the forest. Vāpyakarmā built many vāpīs (step-wells), wells, tanks and beautiful palaces. He was a dharmātmā, always engaged in works of dharma. At that time King Vīrabalada, a follower of Mahāmada, attacked him with an army of one lakh. Vāpyakarmā conquered the Paiśācas and mlecchas and celebrated the Kṛshṇotsava of Bhagavān Kṛshṇa. His son was Guhila, from whose family come the Gauhila kshatriyas.
