Unmukha (son of Balarāma)

Unmukha · ut-mukha, “the one with face upturned”

Unmukha is a son of Balarāma, the avatāra of Śesha, and of Revatī, the daughter of King Raivata. His brother is Niśaṭha.

His birth

The Brahma Purāṇa tells that after Balarāma had bathed in the Yamunā and Lakshmī had given him a blue water-lily for his head, an earring sent by Varuṇa, a garland of unfading lotuses and two divine garments, he sported there for two months. Then he went to Mathurā and married Revatī, the daughter of King Raivata. By her he had two sons, Niśaṭha and Unmukha.
