Niśaṭha

Niśaṭha was a hero of the Vṛṣṇi and Andhaka clans. He was one of the great Yādava warriors linked with the house of Dvārakā. At the close of the Mahābhārata, in the Svargārohaṇa Parva, the great beings who had lived on earth returned to their divine origins. Niśaṭha is named among the famous Yādavas who entered into the Viśvedevas.

A Yādava hero

Niśaṭha was one of the mighty men of the Vṛṣṇi and Andhaka lines, the clans of Kṛṣṇa and Balarāma. Their warriors were famous throughout the earth. He shared the glory of the Yādava host with champions such as Akrūra, Sāmba, Vidūratha and Uddhava.

His final destination

In the fifth and closing chapter of the Svargārohaṇa Parva, Sauti speaks at the request of King Janamejaya. He tells how each of the great departed ones rejoined the deva or the divine class of whom he had been a part. Niśaṭha is among those named. With Virāṭa, Drupada, Dhṛṣṭaketu, Vidūratha, Bhūriśravas, Śala and other exalted men, he entered into the Viśvedevas and became one with them. He did not take a new mortal birth.

The Mahābhārata tells this in the Svargārohaṇa Parva, Chapter 5.
