Tāmasa Manu

Tāmasa

Tāmasa is the fourth of the fourteen Manus. Sumantu Muni tells King Śatānīka in the Brahma Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa that after Svāyambhuva, Svārocisha and Uttama came Tāmasa, then Raivata and Cākshusha; these six have passed, and the seventh, Vaivasvata, is the present one (Brahma Parva, Chapter 125).

Bhagavān Śrī Kṛshṇa tells Yudhishṭhira the same: six Manus have passed, Svāyambhuva, Svārocisha, Uttama, Tāmasa, Raivata and Cākshusha, and Vaivasvata Manu is present (Uttara Parva, Chapter 2). Devarāja Indra and Devaguru Bṛhaspati asked Sāmbharāyaṇī about these Manus, the manvantaras and the Indras gone by, and she told every account exactly (Uttara Parva, Chapter 107).
