Suketu (Son of Ketumān)

Suketu · su-ketu, “the one of the fair banner”

Suketu is a king of the lunar line, in the family of the Kāśī kings that comes down from Alarka. He was the son of Ketumanta and the father of Dharmaketu.

His line

The Brahma Purāṇa gives the line of the Kāśī kings. Vatsa’s son Alarka, a knower of Brahman, killed the rākshasa Kshemaka and rebuilt Vārāṇasī. Alarka’s son was Sannati; then came Sunītha, Kshema, and Kshema’s son Ketumanta, a second king of that name, not Dhanvantari‘s son. Ketumanta’s son was Suketu, and Suketu’s son was Dharmaketu. From Dharmaketu the line went on through the great chariot-warrior Satyaketu, Vibhu, Anarta, Sukumāra, Dhṛshṭaketu, Veṇuhotra and Bhārga.
