Kshema (son of Sunītha)

Kshema, “welfare”

Kshema is a king of the Kāśī line, in the line of Alarka. He was the son of Sunītha and the father of Ketumanta.

His line

The Brahma Purāṇa tells that Divodāsa begot the hero Pratardana, whose sons were Vatsa and Bharga. Vatsa’s son was Alarka, a brahmajñānī, true to his vow, who killed the rākshasa Kshemaka and rebuilt Vārāṇasī. Alarka’s son was Sannati; Sannati’s son was Sunītha; and from Sunītha came Kshema. Kshema’s son was Ketumanta, and the line went on through Suketu, Dharmaketu, the mahāratha Satyaketu, Vibhu, Anarta, Sukumāra, Dhṛshṭaketu, Veṇuhotra and Bhārga.
