Hastī

Hastī, “the one of the elephant”

The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that Hastī was a king of the Candra line in the Dvāpara Yuga, the son of Śakrahotra by Ghṛtācī and father of Ajamīḍha. Mounted on a young one of the elephant Airāvata, he built in the west a city called Hastinā after his own name. It extends ten yojanas and stands on the bank of the Svargaṅgā. He lived there and ruled 10,000 years.
