Gaṅgādatta
Gaṅgādatta · gaṅgā-datta, “given by Gaṅgā”
Gaṅgādatta is a king of the Parihāra line. The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that he was the son of Nadīvarmā, and that he settled the delightful city Nadīhā in the direction of Gauḍa rāshṭra. He called an expert Vidyādhara, by whom that city, devoted to the Vedas, was protected. He ruled twenty years there, and from then the Gaṅgāvaṃśīs of his family became famous on earth. His son was Śārṅgadeva.
