Devakī of Mahāvatī

Devakī

Devakī of Mahāvatī is the mother of Udayasiṃha, also called Ūdala. She is a different person from Devakī the mother of Śrī Kṛshṇa.

The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that Sūta reports these words of Śrī Kṛshṇa: “In the city named Mahāvatī, built by Māyādevī, my aṃśa will arise as the son of Deśarāja, called Udayasiṃha. He will be born from the womb of Devakī.”
