Yajñopeta

Yajñopeta · yajña-upeta, “the one joined to yajña”

Yajñopeta is a rākshasa who attends Bhagavān Sūrya. The Brahma Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa, in its account of the ratha of Sūrya, says that Bhagavān Sūrya stays with gandharvas, apsarās, serpents and rākshasas, two months with each group in turn. Yajñopeta is one of the rākshasas with him in Māgha and Phālguna, with Brahmopeta.
