Raṅkaṇa and Yaṅkaṇā
Raṅkaṇa Yaṅkaṇā · raṅkaṇa yaṅkaṇā, “Raṅkaṇa and his wife Yaṅkaṇā”
Raṅkaṇa and Yaṅkaṇā are husband and wife of whom the Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells. Raṅkaṇa, also called Rāṅkā, was an aṃśa of Pāvaka, the Vasu, born in a vaiśya family at Kāñcanapura. His pativratā wife was Yaṅkaṇā, also called Bāṅkā. The two spent all their wealth in works of dharma and lived by selling wood, and Rāmānanda was Raṅkaṇa’s guru.
The aṃśa of Pāvaka
Sūta said to the muni: hearing these words of Bṛhaspati, Bhagavān Pāvaka produced his own aṃśa from his own mouth. That aṃśa of Pāvaka, a Vasu, became famous as Raṅkaṇa, son of Lakshmīdatta. He was born in a vaiśya family in the city of Kāñcanapura.
Their life of dharma
His pativratā wife was Yaṅkaṇā. The two spent all their wealth in works of dharma and sold wood. With the money they earned they did pūjā, and they lived by the prasāda they received. The guru of Mahātmā Raṅkaṇa was Rāmānanda.
