The Samprāpti Dvādaśī is a vrata kept for one year on the dvādaśī of the kṛshṇa paksha of every month, the twelfth day of the dark fortnight, in two halves of six months each. In each month the vratī fasts and worships Bhagavān Vishṇu under one of six names. Bhagavān Śrī Kṛshṇa teaches it to Mahārāja Yudhishṭhira in the Uttara Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa, Chapters 77–78, just before the Govinda Dvādaśī.
The first half runs from the Pausha kṛshṇa dvādaśī to the dvādaśī of Jyeshṭha, and the second from the Āshāḍha kṛshṇa dvādaśī to Mārgaśīrsha. A brāhmaṇa is fed every month, and oil and kshāra (alkaline or salty substances) are not taken. Keeping it for one year fulfils all desires, and at the end the vratī reaches the loka of Bhagavān Vishṇu by his anugraha (grace).
