Agniveśya
Agniveśya
Agniveśya is a ṛshi named in the Brahma Purāṇa among those who came to the Gautamī where she joins the eastern sea.
In the Brahma Purāṇa
Closing his account of the tīrthas of the Gautamī, Brahmā tells Nārada that the Gaṅgā, worthy of honour even by the devas, joined the eastern sea, and all the devas followed her. She was praised by the ṛshis and the Maruts: by Vasishṭha, Jābāli, Yājñavalkya, Kratu, Aṅgiras, Daksha, Marīci and the Vaishṇavas. At the confluence the pāpas of Śātātapa, Śaunaka, Devarāta, Bhṛgu, Agniveśya, Atri, Marīci, Daksha, Manu, Gautama and others, together with Kauśika, Tumburu, Parvata and others, were destroyed completely. Agastya, Mārkaṇḍa and others devoted to yoga, with Gālava, Pippala, Vāmadeva and the Āṅgirasas and Bhārgavas, learned in the smṛtis and the Vedas, also went to the divine river Gautamī.
