Gaṅgotragiri
Gaṅgotragiri · gaṅgotra-giri, “the mountain of Gaṅgotra”
Gaṅgotragiri is a mountain peak named in the Fourth Khaṇḍa of the Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa. The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that after the Guruṇḍas, the Maunas, dwellers of Himatuṅga, gained the kingdom, with Ārjika as their king. His son Devakarṇa performed fierce tapas for twelve years on the peak of Gaṅgotragiri for the growth of the kingdom. By that tapas Bhagavatī Gaṅgā gave him darśana, and Kubera gave him the rank of maṇḍalīka of the Āryas. Devakarṇa then protected his people and ruled the earth for sixty years.
