Vyāḍi

Vyāḍi

Vyāḍi was the son of Ṛk, the eldest son of the brāhmaṇa Pitṛśarman, and was skilled in Nyāya-śāstra. The Pratisarga Parva of the Bhavishya Purāṇa tells that he went with his grandfather and his cousins Mīmāṃsa, Pāṇini and Vararuci to the assembly of King Candragupta of Magadha. When the king asked which brahmacarya-vrata is the best, Vyāḍi answered first: “Mahārāja, one who is intent on worshipping the Parama Purusha according to nyāya is the excellent brahmacārī.” Sūta tells this to the ṛshis.
